标题:Interactive OODA Processes for Operational Joint Human-Machine Intelligence

简介:key advantage to strategic thinking with the Observe-Orient-Decide-Act (OODA) framework is that it provides a systematic approach to get inside the decision-making process of another agent, either cooperative or adversarial. Indeed, current OODA concepts have supported understanding human decision processes to support agile and competitive decisions about human warfighters and human-centric operations. However, future military decision making based on human-machine teaming relies on technology and interaction concepts that support joint human-machine intelligence, not just human capabilities. This requires new OODA concepts. Herein, I define a machine OODA loop, considering the characteristics that make it similar to and different from the human OODA loop. I consider how advances in artificial intelligence and cognitive modeling can be integrated within the machine-Orient stage, providing the machine a unique advantage over humans in that the machine can integrate a level of understanding and prediction about human operators together with predictions about machine behaviors and data analytics. Additionally, I propose that effective human-machine teaming should be supported by human-machine joint decision-action processes, conceptualized as interacting OODA loops. Consideration of the interacting human-machine OODA processes offers conceptual guidance for design principles and architectures of systems supporting effective operational human-machine decision making.

简介:The pilot project The Future of Manufacturing in Europe is an explorative and future-oriented study. It explores the future adoption of some key game-changing technologies and how this adoption can be promoted, even regionally. The analysis of implications for working life focuses primarily on tasks and skills, not only at the white-collar, tertiary-education level, but also for blue-collar occupations, including a focus on challenges facing national and company apprenticeship systems. The future orientation also includes quantitative estimates of the employment implications of the Paris Climate Agreement, of large increases in global tariffs and of radical automation. It also measures the return of previously offshored jobs to Europe. Other research examines how the deepening globalisation provides opportunities for small companies to engage in international supply chains. This final report summarises the 10 project reports, which are complemented by 47 case studies, 27 policy instruments and 4 associated publications.

标题:A review of scheduling problem and resolution methods in flexible flow shop

简介:The Flexible flow shop (FFS) is defined as a multi-stage flow shops with multiple parallel machines. FFS scheduling problem is a complex combinatorial problem which has been intensively studied in many real world industries. This review paper gives a comprehensive exploration review on the FFS scheduling problem and guides the reader by considering and understanding different environmental assumptions, system constraints and objective functions for future research works. The published papers are classified into two categories. First is the FFS system characteristics and constraints including the problem differences and limitation defined by different studies. Second, the scheduling performances evaluation are elaborated and categorized into time, job and multi related objectives. In addition, the resolution approaches that have been used to solve FFS scheduling problems are discussed. This paper gives a comprehensive guide for the reader with respect to future research work on the FFS scheduling problem.

标题:Adaptive attitude takeover control for noncooperative targets using robust allocation

简介:Attitude takeover control is necessary for space debris removal and satellite orbit transfer. Taking control constraints, unknown inertial tensor, uncertain capture position and external disturbances into consideration, an adaptive control torque for the post-capture combination attitude takeover control is designed. The uncertain capture leads to the movement of gripper, which causes the relative position and attitude motion between the gripper and the debris and changes the configuration of thrusters and tether. Based on the robust optimization theory and interior-point method, control torque, as the intermediate control volume, is allocated to thrusters and tether. Simulation results show that the algorithm designed have good robustness and can implement the attitude takeover control of the combination after capturing the target.

标题:Method of load calculation of electrical drives of rolling mills during heavy plate manufacturing

简介:During manufacturing of heavy strips and plates from difficult-to-form steel grades on sheet and wide-strip rolling mills there is a problem of exact calculation of power parameters of rolling. It is pointed out that known methods do not provide required precise information at high deformation zones in a stand. An improved calculation method for rolling pressure and load torque of electrical drive engine is suggested further. This method considers peculiar strain of product in high deformation zones and its accelerated motion in reverse mode. Improved analytical dependences for rolling pressure and load torque of electrical drive are reviewed. Control flow chart and main screen of developed software for calculation of wide-strip rolling parameters are presented. Comparative analysis of calculation data and experimental results of engine equivalent currents during tube steels rolling is made. As a result improved precision of calculation method is justified.

标题:A Comprehensive Study of Single and Multiple Truck Crashes Using Violation and Crash Data

简介:Around 4,000 people died in crashes involving trucks in 2016 alone in the U.S., with 21 percent of these fatalities involving only single-unit trucks. Many studies have identified the underlying factors for truck crashes. However, few studies detected the factors unique to single and multiple crashes, and none have examined these underlying factors in conjunction with violation data. The current research assessed all of these factors using two approaches to improve truck safety. An injury/fatal crash was defined as a crash that results in an injury or fatality. The first approach investigated the contributory factors that increased the odds of injury/fatal single truck and multiple vehicle crashes with involvement of at least one truck. The literature has indicated that previous violations can be used to predict future violations and crashes. Therefore, the second approach used violations related to driver actions that could result in truck crashes. The analysis for the first approach indicated that driving on dry-roadway surfaces, driver distraction, and rollover/jackknife types of truck crashes, speed compliance failure, and higher posted speed limits are some of the factors that increased the odds of injury/fatal single and multiple vehicle crashes. With the second approach, the violations related to risky driver actions, which were underlying causes of truck crashes, were identified and analyses were run to identify the groups at increased risk of truck involved crashes. The results of violations indicated that being nonresident, driving off peak hours, and driving on weekends could increase the risk of truck involved crashes.

It’s estimated that their production line will reduce the costs of manufacturing by 50% compared to other 3D printing systems.

简介:在59日的“中国增材制造产业发展丝路行暨渭南国际增材制造产业合作恳谈会”上,21世纪经济报道从工信部装备工业发展中心主任瞿国春处获悉,去年全球增材制造(3D打印)产业产值已经达到97.95亿美元,同比增长了33.5%。其中,增材制造零部件的产值占比达12%,增材制造应用方式逐步从设计走向了直接制造,这意味着到了真正的产业化阶段。

瞿国春表示,未来将推动3D打印在工业医疗教育等领域的规模化应用。从提升创新能力、推进行业应用、打造产业集聚区、深化国际合作上下功夫,突破专业材料、工艺装备等核心技术方面的瓶颈。

简介:WASHINGTON — Blue Origin revealed new details about a lunar lander concept that the company’s founder says can support a human return to the moon by 2024.

At an invitation-only event here May 9, company founder Jeff Bezos unveiled a full-sized model of the Blue Moon lander the company has been developing, along with an engine named BE-7 that will power the spacecraft. That unveiling, with the theatrical flourish of a curtain raising to reveal the lander, took place about a half-hour into an hour-long event about the company’s plans and vision.

The spacecraft is able to land 3.6 metric tons of cargo on the lunar surface, with a “stretch tank” version capable of landing 6.5 metric tons on the surface. The lander has a deck on the top for hosting payloads and a davit, or crane, to lower them to the lunar surface.

The lander uses liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen propellants, rather than storable hypergolics. “It’s very high performance,” he said of the choice of propellants. “Ultimately, we’re going to be able to get hydrogen from that water on the moon, and be able to refuel these vehicles on the surface of the moon.”

标题:Nonlinear Disturbance Observer-Based Adaptive Sliding Mode Control for a Generic Hypersonic Vehicle

简介:In this paper, a new adaptive sliding mode control method is presented for the longitudinal model of a generic hypersonic vehicle subject to uncertainties and external disturbance. Firstly, an oriented-control model with mismatched uncertainties is built for a generic hypersonic vehicle. Secondly, the back-stepping technique is introduced to design a sliding mode controller with an adaptive law to adapt to the disturbance and uncertainty. Thirdly, a set of nonlinear disturbance observers are designed to estimate the lumped disturbance and compensate the sliding mode controller, and the stability of the proposed controller is analyzed by utilizing Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, simulation results show that the effectiveness of the proposed controller is validated by the nonlinear model and the proposed method exhibits promising robustness to mismatched uncertainties.

简介:In this study, electrical machine technologies are compared comprehensively for a hybrid turbocharger used with a high-power marine engine. It is required for the machine to operate in a thermally aggressive environment, with turbine exhaust temperatures in excess of 600 degrees C. Furthermore, it is required to both generate from the extra exhaust energy (turbo-compounding) at high-engine loads as well as a motor for low-engine loads during slow steaming. The application investigated translates to a machine featuring both high-power (150kW) and high speeds (25-50krpm), together with a considerable constant power-speed region. In this study, induction machines (IM), permanent magnet machines and switched reluctance machines are compared taking into account a number of aspects including the thermal performance, torque ripple, converter volt-ampere rating, and cost. In light of the technical and market requirements, the IM featuring new materials is prototyped and tested for the application in a representative environment.
